About Me
Hi there! This is Manson. I am a PhD student in Linguistics at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), specializing in phonetics under the supervision of Prof. MOK Peggy Pik Ki. I earned my honours bachelor's degree in Speech Sciences from The University of British Columbia (UBC), where I was supervised by Prof. Márton SÓSKUTHY.
Currently, I am focusing on Hong Kong Cantonese and different varieties of English (mainly Hong Kong English, of course) within the scope of AI-directed speech register, phonetic accommodation in Human-Machine Interaction (HMI), sound change, and code-switching. This site features my academic updates, interests, and projects.
Whether you want to discuss phonetics, languages in Hong Kong, or ask for an eye on your (Cantonese) stimuli (I recently found myself enjoying doing this, somehow), please feel free to reach out via email! Cheers!
Just in case we ever meet in person and need a conversation starter, here are a few fun/random facts about me:
- I haven't eaten a single piece of candy since I was 5 years old
- I was a member of the National Development Squad (Triathlon) in high school
- My name is a literal compound noun: my dad is "Man" and I am his "son"
Anyway, make yourself at home and feel free to browse around!
